We believe that children are a gift from the Lord (Psalm 127:3) and as such, parents have the authority and responsibility to discipline, nurture, train, and educate their own children, not only spiritually but academically and socially.  (Duet 11:19, Prov 22:6).  Home education provides a Biblical institution for teaching children, with parents as the main teachers.  Specifically, because independent (or private) home education falls under the same laws as a private school in the state of California, it allows families the freedom to teach from a Biblical worldview, using Christian curriculum.  Independent  home education from a Biblical worldview can be accomplished through the blessings and provisions of the Lord, by Christian families seeking to glorify Him.

Government funded programs  for home educators (i.e. charter, CHEP, and government ISP's) fall under the same laws as public schools.  Families who home educate under the control of the government, by law, cannot teach religion directly, or indirectly according to the California State Constitution, Article 9, Section 8.

SOCCO programs and the fellowship we enjoy include the teaching and affirmation of our faith in the Lord.  The group exists to provide a place where Christian families, independent of government control, can support one another with their God-given resources, time, and talents for encouragement, accountability, academic, social, and service opportunities.

More information on government funded programs for homeschoolers:

· The money paid to home educators by the state can only legally be spent on non-Christian materials, influencing parents to purchase curriculum that eliminates the Christian worldview from the subjects taught.

· The head of a government funded home school, and the one who receives praise for a successful home school, becomes the government instead of Jesus Christ.

· Home schooling families that use government money or services through charter schools, will become dependent on government money and are subject to increasing government regulation.

· If we ask the government to provide what God has not ordained government to provide, we tell our children and the world around us that we do not believe our God is sufficient to meet all of our needs.

Make sure that your character is free from the love of money, being content with what you have; for He Himself has said, "I will never desert you, nor will I ever forsake you,"
